Program History
Over the past decade, the ILHS Marching Band has transformed from a small 2A ensemble into a strong, competitive 5A–6A program recognized across the state and region. Beginning with state finals appearances in 2A and 3A, the band steadily increased both membership and competitive strength, ultimately reaching finalist placements in every classification they entered.
In recent years, the band has achieved top-10 finishes in 5A, including 6th and 9th place, while expanding to more than 135 performers. In 2025, the ILHS Marching Band made district and school history by performing at a Bands of America Regional, marking its emergence on the national stage.
With strong leadership development, increasing musical rigor, and one of the fastest-growing feeder programs in the region. The Warrior Middle and Intermediate school programs are stronger than ever, with 460 students currently enrolled in grades 5–8 band programs, ensuring a thriving future for the high school ensembles. The ILHS Marching Band continues its rise toward excellence as it prepares to enter 6A. Today, it stands as a proud symbol of school spirit, discipline, and artistic achievement.
The ILHS Color Guard has grown into a vibrant, high-performing visual ensemble that plays a central role in the marching band’s artistic identity. From its early years supporting a small 2A competitive band, the guard has expanded dramatically in size and skill, now featuring nearly 30 performers each fall. Their visual artistry has helped elevate the ILHS Marching Band’s overall production value as the program climbed classifications from 2A to 5A. As the guard’s membership and technical ability increased, so did its impact on the marching band’s regional and state-level success. With more students participating each year and a strong pathway into the award-winning Winter Guard program, the ILHS Color Guard has become a cornerstone of the school’s performing arts community—known for creativity, athleticism, and expressive performance.
