UnReal Start of the Season: Indian Land High School Warrior Band Dominates at 2nd Annual Airport Eagle Classic
Updated: Sep 25
The stadium lights radiated bright against the stark starless night sky. There was an electric buzz 'waving' through the band stands on the heels of months of sweltering heat waves and serious, albeit sweaty, rehearsal commitments. Dedication alchemized that energy into silver and gold this past Saturday, September 19th where the Indian Land High School Warrior Band traveled to Columbia, SC, to take field for their very first competition of the season at the 2nd Annual Airport Eagle Classic hosted by Airport High School.
Competing in the competitive Class 5A division, our student-musicians and color guard members took the field with their captivating 2026 production: UnReal.
Exploring UnReal: AI Meets Humanity
The show explores the dynamic relationship between artificial intelligence and humanity. From the dramatic, mechanical precision of the opening sets to the soulful, expressive push of the main themes, the Warriors seamlessly translated this high-tech concept into a high-energy visual and auditory masterpiece. The brass and woodwinds delivered crisp, powerful musicality, while the percussion section drove the rhythm forward with machine-like accuracy. Surrounding it all, the color guard brought the storyline to life with incredible visual storytelling, dynamic flag work, and expressive choreography that drew huge applause from the stands.
AAAAA Sweep
When it came time for the awards ceremony, the Warrior Band made a massive statement, bringing home top-tier trophies across nearly every single category in Class 5A.
1st Place – Drum Majors
1st Place – Music Performance
1st Place – General Effect
1st Place – Color Guard
2nd Place – Visual Effect
2nd Place – Percussion
2nd Place Overall in Class 5A (missed 1st place by a razor-thin margin of just 0.025 points!)
Taking home 1st Place in Music, General Effect, Color Guard, and Drum Majors in their season opener is an extraordinary accomplishment that speaks volumes about the talent, heart, and discipline of these students. Losing 1st place overall by less than a tenth of a point only fuels the fire for the rest of the season!
